16 Reasons Wonder Woman Is Totally Kickass, According to Gal Gadot

For the first time in more than 75 years, Wonder Woman is bringing her badass lady boss brand of crime fighting to theaters in a lead role. The first female superhero (famously played by Lynda Carter in the 1970s TV series) to carry a film franchise in more than a decade, Wonder Woman is hitting the big screen. We are totally feeling the #girlpower -- or shall we say #womanpower -- and we're not the only ones.

In a boatload of interviews, the film's star, Gal Gadot, has praised Diana Prince -- aka Wonder Woman -- not just for her super human strength, but also for her compassion and kindness, reminding us that she is a superhero little girls (and their moms) can look up to.

Gadot, herself the mom of two young girls, hopes Prince can be a role model to children around the world -- and based on what she's been saying, we can't wait to show our kids (girls and boys alike) that women can be pretty wonder-ful.

1. She's a real woman ...

"I feel very proud that finally this movie is being made because all of the guys, all men, all boys, always had a figure to look up to," Gadot told Refinery29. "Whether it's Superman or Batman or Spider-Man or whatever it is, they always had heroes to look up to, and for girls it's always the princesses who are being saved, who are being passive. Finally, [there's] Wonder Woman. She's fierce, she's proactive, she believes in herself, she believes she can do everything, and that's a true woman to me."

"For me it was very important that we didn't portray this character as a ball buster or as a cold woman just because she is so strong," Gadot said in an interview with Emmanuel Levy, Cinema 24/7. "And it was very important for me that people would be able, men and women and boys and girls, not only women, so it was important for me that this character would be universal."

"I think that everything Wonder Woman stands for is brilliant," Gadot has said. "She stands for justice and peace and wisdom and love and acceptance and compassion and all of these things are becoming rare in our world."

"She doesn't see that difference between any gender difference. It's not even an issue, you know," Gadot explained in an interview posted on Collider. "She comes from this world where men and women are equal and it's not a thing to be a man or to be a woman. She sees, she feels that she can do everything and she will go for it. She's a peace seeker; she wouldn't go and look to start a battle or a fight. She would try to solve it in any other different way."

"She's full of love and compassion, and warm and truth, and she's all about justice and peace, but ... we showed her vulnerability and confusion and naïveté to have people relate to her."

"I think that this movie is not only important for girls, it's important for boys as well," she continued. "We keep on talking about women empowerment and first thing, it's important that girls will have a strong female figure to look up to, just like boys have. But at the same time, it's important for boys to have a strong female figure to look up to because we can't empower women without educating the men as well. It's not one-sided, we need both sides to be in this together. That's also the way we show gender in such obvious way in the movie."

"Wonder Woman is a feminist, of course," Gadot explained in Entertainment Weekly. "I think people have a misconception about what feminism is. People think hairy armpits and women who burn bras and hate men. That's not it. For me, feminism is all about equality and freedom and [women] choosing what we want to do."

"On the one hand, she owns something that is usually owned by men, which is the strength and the power, but she brings the feminine qualities with her, which are love and warmth and compassion," she's said about her character. "And if you bond those two worlds together, then you get a very special, beautiful, whole character."

"I told them that I wanted to be able to show the stronger side of women," Gadot told Interview magazine. "I didn't want to do the obvious role that you see in Hollywood most of the time, which is the heartbroken girl who's waiting to be rescued by the guy, blah, blah, blah. I wanted to do something different. Little did I know that I would land Wonder Woman not long after."

"It was her heart that we cared about, not her being this warrior," she told Variety. "When you tell a story from the heart, all of us can relate, because all of us want to live in a safe, quiet, and peaceful world."
