Kate Middleton & Queen Elizabeth Both Suffer From a 'Crippling' Condition
Queen Elizabeth has reportedly been giving Kate Middleton "queen lessons," and now we have to wonder if it includes advice on how to handle those famous carriage rides they take for special occasions, such as the Trooping the Colour parade every June. Royal fans have noticed that both the monarch and the future queen regent don't seem to enjoy the horse-drawn rides -- and it turns out there's a legit reason for their dislike.
Kate had to endure a carriage ride just last week, for the Royal Ascot.
She shared a carriage with her husband, Prince William, as well as her in-laws, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall. It's rare that we see Kate without a beaming smile on her face, so her stern look here definitely stood out.
Queen Elizabeth shared a similar grimace in her own carriage for the event.
While sharing a carriage with her daughter, Princess Anne, Queen Elizabeth definitely looked like she had other places she'd rather be.
All of this grimness in carriage apparently comes from the fact that both Kate and the Queen suffer from horrible motion sickness.
A royal insider told the Sunday Mirror that carriage rides are torturous for the Queen and the duchess, as they both suffer from "crippling motion sickness." The source revealed, "The truth is the Duchess of Cambridge gets very seasick and doesn't enjoy the rocking motion of carriages ... Worrying she may be ill on such an important occasion as Trooping the Colour added to her stress."
According to the Mirror, Queen Elizabeth also suffers from motion sickness, but there's no way to get out of the carriage rides, as they're steeped in tradition. Referring to Kate at Trooping the Colour, the insider explained, "Protocol meant she had no choice but to go by state carriage."
Apparently Kate can't even take meds for her motion sickness, as they famously cause drowsiness.
She has no choice but to follow in her grandmother-in-law's footsteps and bear through it. Given how sick she must feel being jostled about in a carriage, it's a wonder she manages to smile at all.
