10 Ads That Totally Won the Super Bowl

Wendy Robinson

Super Bowl Sunday is always a pretty epic day. There is game day food to enjoy (fun fact: Super Bowl weekend is the biggest sales spike for avocados all year. All hail, guacamole!). There is a little football played, apparently (we were a little busy with the guacamole). There was a halftime show that was heavy on hip-hop nostalgia. And, of course, there is the real competition of the day: The fight to see which company had the best, funniest, or most memorable Super Bowl ads of the year!

Every year the Super Bowl ad budgets get bigger and the commercial hype gets even higher, so were the Super Bowl ads of 2022 good enough to distract everyone from their beer and Buffalo wings? Heck yes! While it always feels a little weird to root for good commercials when we do our best the rest of the year to skip past them, there were some ads for 2022 that were definitely worth the hype. From surprising celebrity sightings (like the usually private couple Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost acting together for the first time in an Amazon ad) to some ads designed to spark give us all the nostalgic feels (yes, we see you Budweiser), we've rounded up ten of the Super Bowl 2022 ads that totally won the ad war this year!

1/10

Amazon's Mind Reader With Scarlett Johansson & Colin Jost

It's an old cliché that honesty is the best policy, but this hilarious ad with Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost makes a compelling case for the importance of keeping some thoughts private, especially from an overly honest household gadget!

2/10

Uber Don't Eats

Look, we're not going to lie: we're a sucker for anything starring the always hilarious Jennifer Coolidge. But it might just be Gwyneth Paltrow eating her vagina-scented candle (no, we're not kidding) who steals the show in the Uber Don't Eats ad!

3/10

Hellman's Tackles Food Waste

Anyone who has ever wondered how Pete Davidson ends up dating so many women who seem out of his league just might enjoy watching him get absolutely leveled by a professional football player. The ad, also starring the perfectly named Jerrod Mayo, is supposed to be about preventing food waste, but it's really just about watching unsuspecting people get tackled.

4/10

Rakuten's High Stakes

We would literally watch Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham in anything (#TeamRebecca forever!), and during the Super Bowl that apparently includes ads for online shopping cash back site Rakuten. It really doesn't matter what the ad is for, as long as it ends with Hannah snapping "GET THE CAT!"

5/10

Lay's Golden Memories

The fact that a 1 minute long ad can feature both Seth Rogen and forever cutie Paul Rudd and be a mini-movie that even features a surprise twist ending is a testament to the crazy amounts of creativity that goes into coming up with Super Bowl ads!

6/10

BMW's Zeus & Hera

There are three things we can learn from BMW's Zeus and Hera Super Bowl ad. First, is that their budget for the ad was BIG. Second, everyone is tired of working this days and eager to retire. And finally, that Salma Hayek can wear the hell out of a Grecian style white one-shouldered gown.

7/10

Budweiser's A Clydesdale's Journey

Is it even the Super Bowl if there isn't a Budweiser ad featuring one of the famous Clydesdale horses? This one is memorable both for being surprisingly emotional and for being directed by an Oscar winning directer, the one and only Chloé Zhao.

8/10

T-Mobile's Duet for Home Internet

This year's Super Bowl was all about nostalgia. Not only did we get a halftime show that was designed to give us hip-hop flashbacks, we also got this T-Mobile ad reminding us of how much we loved Turk and J.D. from the TV show Scrubs back in the day.

9/10

Michelob's Superior Bowl

Michelob may win the award for the most sports stars jammed into one commercial (this one has Peyton Manning, Jimmy Butler, Alex Morgan, Brooks Koepka, Nneka Ogwumike, and Serena Williams looking flawless as hell), but Peyton Manning might win the award for most commercial gigs of the Super Bowl. We know we saw him in at least three different ads!

10/10

Nissan's Thrill Driver

This Nissan commerical is both epic because it features several stars from the Marvel cinematic universe, like Brie Larson and Danai Gurira, and because it forces us to ask ourselves if we might just think Eugene Levy with long hair is actually kind of a smokeshow. Hello, silver fox.
