9-Year-Old Boy Gets Mom Arrested After Turning Her Bag of Drugs Over to the Police

Most children aren’t particularly good at keeping their parents’ secrets. They are rather skilled, however, at sharing embarrassing or not so flattering details with people their parents would prefer to not have those facts.

One child from Nevada took this to the extreme when he presented his mother’s illegal activity to the absolute last people she would want to know about it: the police. This 9-year-old's decision to rat out his mom resulted in her immediate arrest.

The incident happened in July 2022, but the footage was recently released.

Recently released body camera footage from the Henderson (Nevada) Police Department captured the moment a boy handed officers the bag of drugs his mother allegedly had been keeping under her nightstand, 8 News Now reported.

Everything came to a head in July 2022, when the boy reportedly found the drugs, locked himself in the bathroom, and used his iPad to call his father. The boy’s father made the call to law enforcement, according to the Daily Mail.

“I just saw a couple of bags, pulled it out, and then that’s when I knew what it was,” the child said. He was correct in his assumption. Police stated the bags contained more than 100 grams of methamphetamine.

The mother reportedly told officers she didn't even know what meth was.

In the video, the boy is wearing a backpack and clutching a plastic bag filled with white powder. An officer introduces himself to the boy and asks if he is scared.

Kendra Long, the boy’s mother, says, “He’s had my phone in the bathroom for like an hour.” Then she tells officers, “I have no idea what that is,” per the Daily Mail.

Despite her pleas of ignorance, Long was arrested on charges of drug trafficking and child abuse. As she was being read her rights, Long said, “'I can't even understand or fathom the fact this is drugs that is in my house.” Later, she told officers she didn’t even know what meth was.

Long was released later that day after posting bond.

Long posted the $25,000 bail on the day of her arrest, according to court records.

Later in the video, the boy’s father picks him up. Before the two leave Long’s home, officers tell him that they were proud of him and he did the right thing.

Prosecutors said Long violated a family court order and broke several other rules, the Daily Mail reported.

After her case was heard in multiple courts, Long was sentenced to probation. Prosecutors said she has already violated the terms. She was also sent to an in-patient drug treatment program.

The boy now lives with his father.

During Long’s trial, prosecutors presented text messages that proved she was dealing drugs while her son was present in the home. One of the messages read, “Sure I'm home. You want a $100 bag or half."

When 8 News Now called Long’s lawyer to ask about his client, he hung up on them. Now, the boy, whose parents are divorced, lives with his father.
