15 Celebrities Who Regretted a Drastic Hair Change

Kaley Cuoco's biggest hair regret happened nearly 10 years ago, but it's only recently that she started talking about it. In the 2022 book The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series, Kaley revealed that her pixie cut in 2014 backfired on her when she thought she'd save time in the hair and makeup chair by having a shorter 'do.

"I was bored and sick of the hair, and what's funny is I thought by cutting my hair, I would spend less time in the hair and makeup chair, even though I loved the hair and makeup team," she said. "And then in my attempt to spend less time on my hair, that decision bit me in the a-- and it took way longer to do my short hair. I was like, 'This is the worst decision! What was I thinking?'"

At the height of her Hunger Games fame in 2013, Jennifer Lawrence cut her hair into a pixie style. Years later, while talking to Vogue for its "73 Questions" series, she admitted that not only does she wish she'd never cut her hair, but that she also wishes there was no evidence of that time in her life at all.

"Obviously, my advice is don't do it, think everything through, and if I could have the internet scrubbed of those photos, or not scrubbed, just add extensions to them. If anybody knows how to do that, that'd be great," she said in September 2022.

Out of all of the hair colors she's had over the years, Shakira wishes she would have held off on the bleach. "I read something, in a compilation of wise advice for young people, that said, 'Use sunblock and do not mess with your hair.' I've messed with my hair too much," she told Cosmopolitan in October 2021.

Through the years, we've seen Kim Kardashian go through many hair changes, but the one she really didn't like seems to be the bob haircut she got in 2018. Just a few days after she debuted her new look, Kim tweeted, "Wait, I miss my long hair." We've all been there!

Though these days, Taylor Swift typically sticks to her signature look of long blond locks and straight bangs, she tried something a little different in 2016 — totally bleached hair that her fans dubbed "Bleachella," since she was spotted with the new cut and color at the Coachella music festival. It wasn't fans' favorite look of Taylor's, and as it turns out, it wasn't hers, either.

In 2016, Miley Cyrus went on a full Facebook rant two months after she'd decided to bleach her hair in a "random apartment" while smoking pot.

"[This] hair color comes in a box … therefore it's available to purchase and what grows from my scalp naturally is mine and only mine!!!" she wrote in a post at the time. "Now I'm out here looking like every Suzy Q & Sally B there is. Either this s--- needs to grow out at super speed or I'm about to go in for a f---ing haircut realllllll quick!!!"

Sarah Jessica Parker didn't have any say in her least favorite hairstyle — does that make it better or worse? Carrie Bradshaw cut her hair after her split with Aidan on Sex and the City, but SJP was the one who had to live with it in real life.

"That's maybe time to be forgotten and to never be discussed again!" she told Yahoo! in 2015.

Most of the time, Rihanna exudes the kind of confidence most of us could only dream of achieving someday, but even she knows what it's like to have big haircut regret. Showing off the shorter style she had in 2013, she was open with her Instagram followers that she had to hype herself up a bit before going for the chop.

"Still tryna get used to my hurr, so I threw on some #redlipstick," she wrote in her caption.

Most of us can agree that Cameron Diaz can rock a short hairstyle like nobody else, but during an appearance on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno she recounted a time when the stylist didn't listen to her directions and ended up cutting way too much off.

"I just burst into tears and started crying, and I felt so vulnerable," she admitted.

Carey Mulligan's hair was bleached for her role in Public Enemies, and it left her hair so damaged that she was forced to cut it all off — something that she also hated, as she told Elle UK in 2011.

"I hate my hair. After An Education, I had a small part in Michael Mann's film Public Enemies, and he wanted me to dye it white blond, and it wrecked my hair. Literally, ruined it. It was falling apart, fried. So I had to cut it off," she said.

Despite the fact that Jennifer Aniston's iconic haircut during Friends was even given its own nickname, the actress herself actually admitted to hating The Rachel upon looking back.

"How do I say this? I think it was the ugliest haircut I've ever seen. What I really want to know is, how did that thing have legs?" she told Allure in 2011.

When Lauren Conrad cut off all her hair while filming The Hills, she ended up regretting it because her hair would never end up going back to the way it was, according to what she told People in 2014.

"My hair won't grow — my hair has not gone past this length since I cut it to my shoulders seven years ago. I've tried vitamins, I've tried everything. It just won't!" she said.

In the 1990s and early 2000s, Jessica Biel took on many of the roles that would eventually shoot her into superstardom. Back then, she had a bob, which made sense for sporty Mary (her character on 7th Heaven), but Jessica isn't a huge fan looking back.

"It was a blunt cut all the way around, and I used to hairspray it until it was stiff. When I look back, I'm like, 'Ugh!'" she told In Style.

Early in her music career, Sheryl Crow was known for her long, wavy hair — and then as soon as she released her first album, Tuesday Night Club, she lopped it all off.

"At the height of my success in the '90s, after my first record, I confounded my record label by chopping all my hair off. Basically it looked like, 'Oh, my record sales are plummeting and people hate me!'" she told InStyle. "The haircut was great — it was the two years of growing it out that was a nightmare. Never again."

Halle Berry is known for rocking a short 'do, but in her opinion, the haircut she had in 1994 was not it — as she told InStyle, "it looks like a backwards mullet." We wouldn't go that far, but it's easy to see why she liked other styles she's had more than this one.
