Jennifer Lawrence & Viola Davis Jokingly Bond Over Times They 'Almost Killed' Their Kids

Lauren Wellbank

It seems actresses Jennifer Lawrence and Viola Davis have more in common than just their career aspirations. The two women recently bonded over stories about how they narrowly avoided tragedy with their children. Now that everyone's safe, the two can look back and laugh about it — but boy, do these incidents sound scary!

The two moms recently shared their stories for a new piece in 'Variety.'

The ladies sat down to chat as part of the magazine's special Actors on Actors issue. They were initially dishing about what it was like for Jennifer to film Causeway while pregnant with her son, Cy, whom she and husband Cooke Maroney welcomed in February 2022. Calling it the "scariest thing in the entire world," Jennifer then switched gears and discussed what it was like "making a family."

She detailed the running list of questions she has in the back of her mind while playing with her son.

Jennifer admitted to wondering what would happen if she "f---ed up" as a parent. "What if I can't do it?" she asked, before adding that she feels "awful" and "guilty" during "every day of being a mom."

She explained, "I'm playing with him and I'm like, 'Is this what he wants to be doing? Should we be outside? We're outside. What if he's cold? What if he's going to get sick? Should we be inside? Is this enough? Is this developing your brain enough?'"

Viola tried to cheer up Jennifer with a story about her daughter, Genesis.

The 57-year-old quickly recounted the time she left her now-12-year-old daughter locked in the car on a "sweltering hot" day when she was a baby. "I had 50 million things on my plate. My daughter was in the back. She's happy, and I'm just so stressed out going to Target," she recalled.

"I love Target. I walk out of the car, shut the door, and realize I don't have my keys. I threw myself on the concrete, Jennifer. I screamed. You would think I was in a Greek tragedy. 'My baby! Jesus!'"

Thanks to modern technology, Viola was able to quickly save the day.

She spotted two men in the parking lot and sought help from them.

"I grabbed their necks and said, 'My baby is in the car! My baby!' And then what do I have in my hand? My phone. So the two men whose necks I've grabbed, they said, 'Ma'am, you just have to call 911.' And I said, 'Oh, OK,'" Viola shared.

Ironically, Jennifer had her own car-related scare to offer up in exchange.

Jennifer once forgot an important car seat safety step with her son.

Nearly one-upping Viola, Jennifer shared her own near-tragic mistake. "I drove around with mine, didn't realize he wasn't buckled into the car seat. He was just teetering around, just flying," she said. "Good to know that we both almost killed our kids."

Joking aside, the pair hit on something most parents face in their daily lives, which is the guilt and shame that they're doing everything wrong. It's nice to hear these two successful ladies admit to struggling just like the rest of us!
