Kate Middleton Skips Earthshot Prize Awards After One of Her Kids Needed Her

No matter what your job might be, for most of us, being a parent comes first — even for those of us who happen to be royal. Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, had to miss being with husband Prince William in Singapore because her oldest son, 10-year-old Prince George, has some major school tests and needed his mom’s support. This will be the first year that Prince William will be presenting the awards solo since he first began handing them out in 2020, but it sounds like it was for a good reason.

It's a big week at school for George.

"Catherine is very sorry she can’t be here," Prince William explained while giving a speech on Monday morning, reported People. "She is helping George through his first set of major exams."

It was announced in late September that the Princess of Wales would be unable to attend the ceremony due to George’s tests.

Kate has talked about George's testing before.

In a clip shared on TikTok in early October by The Sun writer Matt Wilkinson, Kate sat with a group of students, telling them, "George is just at the beginning of being tested. He says, 'Mummy, I keep getting tested all the time.’ But when it gets to A-levels you feel like you're on it."

A-levels are intense subject-based tests that students in the UK need to take to be able to get into college.

Apparently, Prince George isn't that into math.

This isn’t the only time the princess has mentioned George’s upcoming tests recently. During a visit with a group of elementary school aged kids. An 11-year-old girl named Gracie from Howardian Primary School recalled Kate asking about her favorite school subject.

"I said I like maths and like our teachers teaching us. And she said I could teach [Prince] George some maths!" she said.

The royal littles started a new school in 2022.

George, as well as younger siblings Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, are in their second year at the Lambrook School, where they started after the family moved from London to Windsor. This year, the Prince and Princess of Wales chose not to release a back-to-school picture of the kids because they "treat school as a private area of their children's lives so they can grow up in as pressure-free an atmosphere as possible," according to People.

We do see a few photos of their school life.

The couple did make the decision to release photos for important school milestones, which is why there was a first day of school photo released last year when the kids began their first day at Lambrook School.

Since then, though, we haven't gotten to see much as they've continued their second year.
