Mom of 3 Girls Immediately Bursts Into Tears at Gender Reveal for Fourth Baby
Watching disappointed parents react to the news of their child’s gender is nothing new. The feelings can range from sadness to all out rage. Perhaps by now you’ve noticed these negative reactions are almost always in response to the pending arrival of a baby girl.
To be honest, it seems like we often view these reveals as a sad commentary on the value placed on women from birth. But one mother of four recently shared her “let down” of a gender reveal on TikTok and offered a different perspective.

Kendra Evens was sure she was going to have a boy this time around.
Kendra recently shared the gender reveal video for her fourth child. The mother of three daughters, Kendra was really hoping for a boy. But when the smoke from her jack-o'-lantern turned pink, those dreams were shattered.
Apparently, Kendra’s eldest daughter shared the same sentiment. “We get a girl? What? Why do we get a girl?” she can be heard saying. Kendra screams out, "Are you kidding me?" and then simply seems at a loss for words. Instead of speaking, she gasped, before doubling over in tears. Her husband stepped in to rub her back.

It was quite a dramatic moment.
Kendra shared the root of her feelings with People. "When I got pregnant with my fourth baby, I knew it was my last and after already having three amazing daughters, it was only natural that I, of course, wanted a boy. On top of that, all three of my pregnancies with my daughters were all the exact same, but with this last pregnancy everything was so different so in my head I swore it was a boy," she explained.
But that was not how the cookie crumbled. As Kendra cried in the video, someone off camera shouted, “Girl Gang all day.”
Her emotions came from accepting the fact she'd never experience what it was like to raise a boy.
Kendra was hesitant about even doing this gender reveal because she didn’t want to express what she knew would be inevitable disappointment if she wasn’t pregnant with a boy. But she decided because this was her last pregnancy, she didn’t want to have any regrets. When she saw the pink smoke, she realized she was saying goodbye to a dream.
“All of these thoughts came flooding, thoughts that I'll never have a son, never be able to experience what it's like to have a mother-son bond, to have a 'mama's boy,' or anything like that," she explained.
'Just because somebody is initially disappointed doesn’t mean baby is not loved,' she said.
Kendra believes there should be space for her feelings. “Gender disappointment is real, both for mom and/or dad,” she said. “Our feelings are valid as humans and gender disappointment should be normalized. You don’t know anyone’s situation or feelings, and just because somebody is initially disappointed doesn’t mean baby is not loved.”
Today, that fourth baby girl, who the Evenses named Nellie, is in the world. And Kendra's perspective is a little bit different.
Other parents said they had experienced the same thing.
“Having daughters has been amazing and has changed me already so much in my life. My girls are so lucky to have each other and know what it's like to have a sister bond — not everyone gets to experience that," Kendra said.
The comments section on her video was full of support from women who had multiple children of the same gender as well.
"As a mom of 4 boys i feel you on the gender disappointment," one user wrote. "I cried for days after we found out our last babe was another boy. your feelings are valid."
Others shared the benefits of having a girl gang.
Another commenter wrote: "As a hospice nurse. Believe me when I tell you, odds are you and hubby will be well taken care of in old age. Daughters step up way more than sons do."
