TikTok Mom Shuts It Down After She Sees Daughter's Over-the-Top 16th Birthday Wish List
Money doesn’t grow on trees is a saying parents have been using for decades. It’s managed to maintain its popularity because kids, teens, and young adults still need to hear it — they just don't understand what it takes to earn a dollar. With inflation, a looming recession, our culture’s excessive shopping habits, and the need for everyone to "keep up" with their peers — well, at least those on social media — there’s a chance today’s youth might need the message more than some of the generations that came before them.
One mom seemed to prove this point when she shared the birthday wish list from her 16-year-old daughter, who evidently thinks her mom can afford to buy her all the finer things in life for one birthday.
Some of her daughter's requests were quite outlandish, but there were a few more reasonable items.
Amanda Melendez, who goes by @weretheayegurls on TikTok, discussed the list with her followers, detailing which requests were reasonable and which ones were a bit outlandish or even downright outrageous.
Amanda explained that her daughter did not want a birthday party. Ideally, she wanted to go on vacation, but plans fell through. So instead, she submitted a wish list to her mother.
One of the items was a puppy.
The list included items like an iPhone 13, a juicer, and a purse from a brand like Coach, Louis Vuitton, or Telfar. Taking it back to a lot of children’s wishes, Amanda’s teen daughter also asked for a puppy.
She overruled that one because while she loves dogs, she knows that she’ll be the one taking care of the dog. Shoes, a wax kit, makeup, and room decor were also on the list.

The teen also put cash on the list. She wondered how much money her daughter might want, specifically. When Amanda asked her, she said, $1,000. Yup, you read that right. In the caption for the TikTok, she wrote: “She clearly is confused about my income.” We're right there with you, mama.
At the end of her birthday celebrations, the girl was extremely appreciative of her mother's efforts.
In the comment section, Amanda’s followers seemed to be on her daughter’s side, encouraging her to find sales on Coach bags and the Savage Fenty underwear she requested. Though Amanda, who wears Walmart underwear, was a bit astonished by her daughter’s expensive tastes, she told her followers to stay tuned to see what she did get her for her birthday.
The gift reveals were so sweet and thoughtful, and we were happy to see that the teen was extremely appreciative of everything her mother got her.
