Moms on the Internet Outraged Over Teacher's School Birthday Suggestion
Everyone knows that teachers don’t have it easy. They’re overworked, underpaid, and often go above and beyond for our children. And that above and beyond includes spending their own money on supplies for their classrooms. So when teachers make a request, most parents try to honor them. But one teacher took things a little too far when she sent a parent her suggestions on how the mom could help the class to celebrate her daughter’s birthday at school.

The mom said that traditional birthday parties are not allowed at her school.
Instead of traditional birthday parties, which have been forbidden by the school administration, Natali said the teacher suggested that she prepare individual, pre-packaged meals for every student in the class. The teacher sent out images of what the proposed meal boxes could look like with a sandwich, or slice of pizza as the main course, a Capri Sun for the beverage, and a cupcake.

Parents were not into it.
The idea was meant to promote easy distribution of the meals and to avoid disruption during snack time.
"I'm trying to think of something to put together for the kiddos. Recommendations greatly appreciated," Natali wrote in a post on the Facebook group, What's in Your Lunchbox. Some parents understood the request, while others were outraged.
'I would be super annoyed if another parent fed my child sugar and junk food at school,' a parent from Australia commented.
"Ummmm sorry. WHAT?” one parent asked. “They want you to send a meal for every kid instead of just a treat?" one mom exclaimed. "And also you're allowed to bring in items that are open or have been made at home?"
Another user asked, “Are you actually kidding?”
Another parent spoke about the lack of nutritional value in the suggested boxed meals: “I would be super annoyed if another parent fed my child sugar and junk food at school. Especially when I go to so much effort preparing a healthy snack and lunch. This kind of birthday treat idea would not be permitted in Australia."
Others offered alternatives.
Another parent offered the suggestion of just ordering a pizza for the whole class instead of going through the extra work of preparing individualized boxes. Other parents said that in order to adhere to the no party rule, Natali could put together party bags for the kids or treats for them to take home after the school day. “That way, there’s no issues with distribution/disruption,” someone noted.
Sounds like a win for everyone, because individual meal boxes are definitely way too heavy a lift for all of us already busy and overwhelmed moms.
