TikTok Trend Reminds Us That Moms Really Do Give the Best Advice
Moms are usually founts of wise words and solid advice. When we're younger, though, we don't always want to listen to our parents or believe that they do know best. As we get older and go through more trials and errors within our own lives, however, we slowly start to realize all of those impactful moments of advice from our moms truly did hold more weight than we previously realized.
A new TikTok trend that has everyone thinking back to our earliest days of "life lessons" from our moms and has us all realizing that whether we want to admit it or not, our moms really did know best.
It all started when TikTok user Renata Dagrella shared some pearls of wisdom from her own mom.
Speaking to her TikTok followers, Dagrella asked, "what is something your mom told you when you were younger that you didn’t believe and thought she was totally wrong, but when you got older, you realized she was 100% right?”
She opened up about the advice her own mother had given, who said she didn't need to wear a lot of makeup because she looked good without it. Dragella added that when she was younger, she was insecure about the way she looked and would never leave her house unless she had a full face of makeup.
Her mother, however, told her to just use "some blush and mascara and head out the door." When she was younger, she didn't agree. But, now, she claims she "wishes" she had photos of her younger self without "such thick eyeliner" and makeup.
People online immediately began to stitch the original video, sharing advice their own mothers had given them that turned out to be true.
TikTok user @chelseazeferina shared that her own mother told her that "you can count your true friends on one hand." She explained that when she was younger, she was "obsessed" with having a ton of friends and thought the more friends she had, the better off she was.
Turns out, like her mom said, when it comes down to it in life, there are actually very few people who will be there for you "through thick and thin." As she got older, Chelsea realized her mom was 100% correct.
Another TikToker shared that mom was right that people 'are jealous.'
When we have issues with other people, and they are hateful and negative, it can truly get us down. TikTok user @liamsayywhaat shared that his mom instilled in him the idea that "they are jealous of you."
Liam explained that his own mother told him the "negative things they think and say about you" are truly what they think about themselves, and they are projecting it out onto you.
Other TikTok users began commenting on the viral videos, sharing things they learned to be true from dear ol' mom.
TikTokers began to add comments with some life advice their own mothers had given them, with much of it being spot on. "My mom told me to never laugh at or judge someone cause it always come back around. So true," commented one person.
"You will find out who your real friends are and they'll show you their true colors when you are in need of help," added another TikToker.
"Always bring a jacket and walkable shoes," a following user chimed in.
"She always used to tell me you are the company you keep," another person added.
"Get a job that makes money — and u can volunteer doing what you love on the side," shared someone else.
Life experiences clearly make moms the fountain of knowledge.
The more TikTok users shared their mom's advice, the more it clicked for all of us.
"When you see those large friend groups 9/10 all those girls lowkey don’t like each other," one TikTok user wrote in the comments.
"No one can make other people feel miserable better than people who are already miserable," commented another user.
"You’ll always get over heartbreak. Didn’t believe it til I got older," added a third person.
One TikTok user even shared wisdom learned from someone else with life experience.
TikTok user Avia said her dad was actually the one who shared some very spot-on life lessons with her that turned out to be very true. Her father told her that beauty has less to do with looks and more to do with a person's light, spirit, and heart.
He also said whenever they played games and she wanted to win as a kid that she can "cheat him," but in the end, she can't "cheat life."
Clearly, our parents knew more than we ever realized. Hopefully one day, we'll be able to give our own kids such solid life advice.
