I Spent Weeks Planning My BFF's Baby Shower & 17 People RSVP'd 'Yes' But No One Showed Up

Colleen Dilthey Thomas

Most people would be thrilled for their best friend to offer to throw you a baby shower. Sweet friends and family typically love the idea of sharing in the excitement of a new baby with the mom-to-be. Hopefully, guests take into consideration how much time, effort, and let's not forget money, goes into throwing a baby shower. If they RSVP "yes," you'd hope they'd quadruple check their calendar. Then recheck it.

TikToker @spins.in.circles posted a heartbreaking clip recently that has people positively sick. She planned an elaborate baby shower for her best friend. Sadly, none of the 17 guests who RSVP'd showed up. The TikToker and the mom-to-be were left in an empty room. Devastating doesn't even begin to describe it.

Every detail was covered.

In a video on TikTok, she shows pics of the fun things she put together for the baby shower. There were custom cookies, a cake, and a huge balloon display. "We were both so excited for the shower," the text over the video reads.

She decorated everything to match in a blue and green theme and was ready to go. Then things went downhill.

Hours before the shower, texts started rolling in.

The party was about to begin when the TikToker started getting texts from people that they weren't coming to the shower. She had 17 yes RSVPs, yet message after message came through with nothing but disappointment.

The video shows a clip of the mom and a little girl sitting under a balloon archway, smiling. But after they left the venue, she sent a text that said, "I seriously can't stop crying. My face and eyes are so swollen I can barely open them." Ugh, those texts must have been so painful to read.

The TikToker gave them all a lesson on manners.

Feeling so bad for her BFF, the TikToker decided to post on the event's page to tell those who disappointed them how she felt.

"Usually I wouldn't say anything, but I do want to express how important it is to let people know if you are not going to be attending. 17 people RSVP'd, and not a single one showed up. I understand life happens — So Please don't commit to events that you aren't 100% sure you will be attending. It would've been easier just to reschedule."

Wow. She took a higher road than a lot of people would have. It could have definitely been much nastier.

No one responded to that message either.

People couldn't believe that this actually happened. The TikToker's final words were, "I love you and will always be here for you, bestie."

Commenters chimed in with their thoughts.

"I take my child to EVERY party she is invited to through school & we will be like the ONLY ones that show up," one mom wrote. "It's SO SAD. I'm sorry for you & her 🥺."

"I'm so sorry this happened," someone else commented. "I'm in tears. Your friend is so lucky to have you. But those people who didn't show, they should be ashamed 🥺."

"I saw a girl in here saying she wouldn't come to baby showers, birthdays etc if on the average day you wouldn't invite me to girls get together," another suggested.

Unfortunately, this is a pretty common occurrence.

There are 60,000 comments on the TikTok, which has 900,000 views. The number of people that this has happened to is sickening. It isn't just hurtful, but it can be embarrassing, too.

"That's the same way for my sons 1st bday," someone wrote. "Just lmk ahead of time so I don't waste my time, money and energy!!"

"This happened to me except for my wedding," another person shared. "Almost no one on my side of friends/family showed up. So embarrassing when they RSVPd."

Another person commented: "Kinda glad it's not just me. Had 12 friends promise to eat 30th bday dinner. Every single one canceled. I was alone at a big table. Not fun."

It's pretty simple. If you commit, show up. If you're unsure, don't say you'll come. People's feelings are on the line. Do better.
