Mom Is Horrified To Find 'Infested, Disgusting' Band-Aid Swimming in Toddler's Yogurt

Deciding what to feed children is an intimate, time- and thought-consuming part of daily parenting decisions for so many people. Many of us know how important nutrition is for these little bodies, and we know how picky toddlers can be. Combine that with a food industry often more concerned with profits than people, and it can all be exhausting.

One mother came face to face with this reality when she opened a snack for her young child and found something truly disturbing inside.

One Australian mom recently found a mold-ridden Band-aid in her daughter's yogurt.

Khristine Mendoza-Aupaau, a mom living in Australia, recently found a used Band-aid in her daughter’s chocolate yogurt cup, the New York Post reported. Mendoza-Aupaau said she was just “moments away” from giving her 1-year-old daughter a spoonful of the snack. Doing so would have exposed her daughter to the black mold that was covering the bandage.

When she spotted the gross material, she decided to share it on Facebook to warn other parents about these packaged snacks.

Mendoza-Aupaau warned parents to be vigilant when feeding their children.

The mom reminded other parents to “PLEASE STIR THROUGH FOOD BEFORE EATING" in her post. "Infested, disgusting, non-hospitality friendly band aid found in this yogurt,” she wrote.

Mendoza-Aupaau shared the store where she purchased the YoGo yogurt. She also scolded the factory responsible, saying its employees “don’t have proper hygiene standards at their workplace.”

She wondered why the product had yet to be recalled.

In the comment section, Mendoza-Aupaau shared that she contacted the company and is still awaiting their reply. She did note that she is not seeking compensation but posted to raise awareness.

She also was outraged that the product hadn’t been recalled. “I mean, it’s a children’s product. And there is a clear breach of health and safety here!” she exclaimed in the post.

The company responsible says it is investigating.

Bega Group told Kidspot, “As soon as we were made aware of this, we commenced working with our broader team to conduct a thorough investigation which is still underway. The safety of our consumers and quality of our product is, as always, the top priority."

In addition to a bandage being a choking hazard for a 1-year-old, black mold also poses certain health risks. According to the Cleveland Clinic, black mold can have adverse effects on the immune system and produce symptoms like sneezing, coughing, congestion and eye irritation. It may worsen asthma symptoms but is unlikely to cause serious illness or death.
