We'll admit it: We've fallen victim to the Stanley tumbler craze. Do you want us to list the reasons we are in love? We fell for the handle, the pretty colors, and the fact that it fits in our car cup holder, and we promised ourselves we would absolutely stick to our water goal because it just tastes better ice cold. Is that enough? Yeah, they are expensive, but we work hard and feel absolutely justified splurging on ourselves in the name of hydration. But what about our kids?

There are plenty of viral videos of kids getting Stanley cups for Christmas, and many of them are pretty darn cute. We remember those days of finding a must-have item under the tree and we think it's fine for parents to give their kids something they really want. But where do you draw the line? How many cups is too many? One creator is flexing a pretty impressive collection of Stanleys, and she is just 16 years old, so who is feeding this extremely spendy addiction?

The Stanley thing started out simply.

Amelia Awad, 16, recently opened up about her massive collection of Stanley cups. Fox Business reported via the Wall Street Journal that Amelia has 67 Stanley cups and water bottles. It started with one tumbler last year and has snowballed. "I'm obsessed," she told the WSJ.

We are talking thousands of dollars worth of cups.

Amelia's parents reportedly buy her the cups, which typically cost at least $40, with special editions garnering a higher price tag. And the more unusual they are, the greater her desire.

"If they are rare, I would want to use them more because I'm special for having them," she explained to WSJ.

She posted a video on TikTok on January 11, showing off her cups beautifully displayed, and while they are a sight to see, they also represent a huge chunk of change. She told WSJ her cups are worth about $3,000, which is mind-boggling.

Her followers noticed.

She posts on TikTok under the handle @mia_lovespink and has 138,000 followers, which is an impressive feat on its own. The comments section was shocked to see all her cups.

People didn't get it.

"What's the point of having that many cups tho?" someone asked.

And the cost stood out. "that'll be $400,000,000,000 🤗😭😍," another comment reads.

And a lot of people criticized her.

"Not trying to be rude or give you hate or anything but no wonder my mum can't find a Stanley for me they all sold out," someone wrote.

"Overconsumption much?" another person commented. "Reuse what you already have or purchase just what you need. Will be funny to check in with this basic girl when the trend ends."

Others loved it.

"Part of me is saying in what world would someone need all these but the ofher part is mesmerized," someone else wrote.

Not everyone thinks the collection is crazy.

Amelia is proud of what she has in her closet and seems primed to keep growing her collection. Her TikTok account gives a lot of love to the brand and other trendy and spendy things, like Lululemon clothes and Sol de Janeiro bath products. She has plenty of followers and supporters.

Creator Vera, @veramusing, defended the teenager saying, "Before jumping to judgment, we can see there's a lot of other things that people collect that maybe we wouldn't understand," before showing images of some other expensive collections.

One commenter made an interesting point. The person wrote: "I swear everytime girls like something to collect it's a problem. I would understand collecting expire-able products but cups?? I love Stanley's 😭."

Has the Stanley trend gotten out of hand?

Some people think so. For as many videos we have seen of happy kids opening Stanley cups at Christmas, we have also seen viral shots of people going crazy trying to grab them at Target. It sort of has Cabbage Patch Kid or Tickle Me Elmo craze vibes. Plenty of people are predicting a downtrend in the Stanley market, but for now, it is going strong.

According to CNBC, Stanley has been around for 110 years but made a smart marketing pivot a few years back and got their cups into the hands of influencers, who helped reinvent the brand. Stanley went from being a brand with annual sales of $70 million to projected sales for 2023 of $750 million. It is nothing short of incredible.
