7 badass facts about Gal Gadot, your new (and super awesome) Wonder Woman
If you're going to see "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" this weekend, well, prepare for the fact that you'll very likely be disappointed — with everyone but Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman, that is. Gadot essentially steals the show in the very few scenes she's in, which has we at Revelist more than pumped for her upcoming 2017 solo debut in the Patty Jenkins-directed "Wonder Woman."
Gadot is going to be huge, but most people outside of the cinephile world still know next to nothing about who she is. So, here we are to fill you in on the most vital facts about Gal Gadot:
She's Israeli — and did her time in their army.
Gal grew up in Israel, and fell in love with dance during her childhood. Despite dreams of one day being a choreographer, she pursued law school after her two years in the Israeli army, where she worked as a combat trainer.
"You give your freedom away," she told Glamour of her time in the army. "You learn discipline and respect."
Her path to stardom began with modeling.
It should come as no surprise if you've seen Gadot's very thin, 5'10 frame and gorgeous features that she began her career as a model. She competed in the 2004 Miss Universe pageant as Miss Israel, where she failed to place in the top 15.
She continued modeling on and off when she wasn't serving in the army or attending school, but she told Urban Male Magazine that she "got tired of doing just the posing all the time. As an actress, I can do so much more... bring myself and my personality [to my work]."
She was *almost* a Bond girl.
What took Gadot out of law school was not modeling, but the chance to star alongside Daniel Craig in the James Bond film "Quantum of Solace." The role eventually went to Olga Kurylenko (in our humble opinion, Gadot dodged a bullet with that one), but the same casting director who saw her modeling card and recommended her for Bond got her a breakout role that introduced Gadot to American audiences.
Which brings us to ...
She's a "Fast and Furious" alumnus.
Gal is certainly no stranger to franchises, having appeared as Israeli spy slash member of Dom Toretto's crew Gisele Yashar in both "Fast Five" and "Fast & Furious 6." (She's the one who fell out of a plane saving her boyfriend from Owen Shaw's thugs. It sucked.)
She's a mom!
Gadot and her husband, businessman Yaron Versano, welcomed a daughter named Alma in November 2011.
She recently told Ellen DeGeneres that Alma was aware of her mother's Wonder Woman status ... but also slightly confused by it.
“She came to visit me many times on set, and one time I was wearing the Wonder Woman costume, and then she asked me, ‘Mummy, if you wear a tiara does that mean you’re a queen and then I’m a princess?’" Gal explained. "I said, ‘Well, I’m playing dress up, this is dress up.'"
She loves motorcycles more than Daryl Dixon.
Gal just won't quit with the certified badass stuff, huh? In addition to doing her own stunts for "Fast and Furious" and training her butt off for Wonder Woman, she also owns a black 2006 Ducati Monster-S2R and is generally in love with motorcycles, according to The Independent.
Her Wonder Woman is groundbreaking.
Not only is Gal's Wonder Woman the first live action film iteration of the character (which is insane), she's also the first Wonder Woman to not hail from North America IRL. Plus, in addition to "BvS" and the aforementioned 2017 solo film, you'll see her in the Zack Snyder's "Justice League" movies alongside Batman, Superman, The Flash, Aquaman, and more.
