Money is tight right now, and we are all feeling it. Parents will do just about anything to bring in a little cash, particularly around the holidays. Side hustles are the way of life for many families, and some are pretty darn lucrative.

One mom shared her success on TikTok, and people were amazed. Karyna Diaz is a stay-at-home mom who claims she makes great money delivering food for Uber Eats. Diaz only accepts orders that are short distances and makes big tips, which she says makes it all worthwhile.

Diaz chronicles her days on TikTok.

She went viral in October, with a video of a day in the life of an Uber Eats driver. The video racked up 1.2 million views.

Diaz lives in Las Vegas, and her first delivery of the day was a Chick-fil-A order that paid her $7 to go just three miles. Her second order paid $8 to travel two miles. She continued to tally the orders throughout the day, with some paying as much as $17 for delivery.

She also treats herself now and then. “Hey guys, a little break. I just picked up some Starbucks and I’m really freaking happy right now,” she says in the clip.

In one day, Diaz made bank.

She filmed her video in three parts, and at the end of the day, she said she made $172.20 during approximately seven hours of food delivery. Quick math says she made about $24.60 an hour that day.

The Nevada Current reported minimum wage in Nevada was raised to $11.25 in July. That means Diaz made more than double the required hourly rate in Vegas that day. Not too shabby.

The more she works, the more she makes.

The nice thing about delivery jobs like Uber Eats is that drivers work when and where they want to. They aren’t tied to a specific schedule, making it ideal for moms with little kids who want something to do while their kids are in school. Plus, Uber Eats drivers choose the jobs they want, so if you don’t want to do long-distance deliveries, you don’t have to.

There is a cost associated with doing this type of business.

Diaz is using her personal vehicle to make the deliveries, which will accumulate wear and tear, and she has to pay for her own gas and maintain her insurance. But according to TurboTax, some of those expenses are tax-deductible.

“The largest tax deduction for most Uber drivers is the business use of a car. You can deduct the actual expenses of operating the vehicle or you can typically use the standard IRS mileage deduction. For 2023 the rate is 65.5 cents per mile,” the website explains.

The comment section was all about the side hustle.

Many people agree that being a driver is a great flexible hustle.

“SAHM here 🫶🏼 I started doing this too! 💙 I take my son with me and we enjoy it 😊,” someone wrote.

“Uber eats is lowkey fun I get to be pretty and just drive and listen to music,” another person commented.

Vegas sounds like the place to be.

One commenter added, “in las vegas I would make with uber eats like $130 for 5 or hours. I moved to Texas and it sucks here I only make $100 in 9 hours or more 😭😮‍💨”

Plenty of people are picky like Diaz. “I won’t accept anything under $10 no more than 2 miles. 2mil there plus 2mil back is 4mil which is worth $10 to me. For $20 plus I’ll go 5mil tops,” someone wrote.

But not everyone is as lucky, and tips are not always high.

“I used to get 2.99 for 16 miles. I no longer do it lol,” another comment reads.

“Mine are 3 dollars and most of the time it’s like 9 miles 😭,” someone else wrote.

Mama, we think you're doing great, and if you can make that kind of cash driving two or three miles at a time, get it.
