Awards season has started (Oscar nominations drop soon, and we're crossing our fingers for Barbie!), so we're in the middle of honoring the biggest movies from 2023. This also means that the 2024 movie season is just starting to heat up. Some of our favorite stars have big movies coming out this year and we are already excited to see what everyone from Ryan Reynolds to Ryan Gosling have in store for us. Heck, we're even excited about some movies that don't star people named Ryan!

From family-friendly animated movies to sexy dramas and some frankly terrifying horror movies, there will be some great options for everyone in the family this year. So, grab some popcorn, put on some comfy pants and get ready for the 15 movies we are most looking forward to this year, both on the big screen and through streaming services.

1/15

'Mean Girls'

We've got some nostalgia for the original Mean Girls and are curious to see how the new musical version will compare. We're not sure anyone can top the original cast, but we'll give it a shot. This one opened on January 12, so head to theaters now.

2/15

'Role Play'

This movie, which launched on Amazon Prime on January 12, is about a mom who has a secret life as an assassin for hire. This action comedy starring Kaley Cuoco and the always excellent David Oyelowo looks like it could be a fun one for a stay-at-home date night.

3/15

'Argylle'

We're curious about the action spy movie Argylle, even if we don't believe the internet rumors that Taylor Swift secretly wrote it (yep, this is a current rumor!). This film, starring Bryce Dallas Howard and a very cute cat, opens on February 2, 2024.

4/15

'Dune: Part Two'

Sci-fi fans have been eagerly awaiting the conclusion to the Dune movie that came out in 2021. Kylie Jenner fans might be flocking to the theater to check out her man Timothée Chalamet, but we're more interested in seeing Zendaya on our screen again. This one opens in March.

5/15

'Kung Fu Panda 4'

There hasn't been a new, full-length Kung Fu Panda movie since 2016, so we're excited that this charming series is coming back and that it has a great voice cast, including Jack Black and Angelina Jolie. Grab the kids and hit the theater in March for this one.

6/15

'Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire'

While the 2016 Ghostbusters movie that starred Melissa McCarthy has a special place in our hearts, we're still into the franchise in general and who can say "no" to seeing some Paul Rudd on our screens? This one opens on March 22, 2024.

7/15

'Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire'

Sometimes we want a quiet and introspective drama that makes us think or see the world a little differently. And sometimes we just want to see monsters smash stuff while we eat way too much popcorn. It's probably pretty easy to guess which category this March movie falls into.

'Challengers'

We love some Zendaya and are very curious to see her in this drama, opening in April. It looks like it is going to show off her tennis as well as her acting chops. This one looks sexy and tense and has date night written all over it.

9/15

'The Fall Guy'

We love Ryan Gosling. We love Emily Blunt. So, duh, we're into the idea of an action movie starring both of them. Ryan plays a movie stuntman who moonlights as a bounty hunter in this film that opens in early May.

10/15

'If'

Resident Hollywood cute dads Ryan Reynolds and John Krasinski star in this fantasy about a little girl who can see imaginary friends. John Krasinski wrote the script. The movie also stars Matt Damon, Steve Carell, and Emily Blunt. It opens in May.

11/15

'Inside Out 2'

It's time to get back into our feelings this summer. This time the Inside Out universe tackles the mind of a teenager. It isn't supposed to be a horror film, but mothers of teens might disagree about that. Amy Poehler once again leads the voice cast for this animated flick which opens in June.

'A Quiet Place: Day 1'

A Quiet Place: Day 1 is a prequel to the popular (and terrifying) Quiet Place movies. This movie, starring the always excellent Lupita Nyong’o, shows what happens before everyone in movie universe figured out the importance of being, well, quiet. This is scheduled to open in late June.

'Despicable Me 4'

We can't help it, we're still fans of those ridiculous yellow Minions. The latest movie in the Despicable Me franchise will drop midsummer, making it a perfect choice for families looking to have some laughs and enjoy some sweet, sweet air conditioning.

'Deadpool 3'

Ryan Reynolds returns this summer as the foul-mouthed super hero Deadpool and this is definitely not a movie for the kids as it will likely be rated "R" as the first movies in the series were. This one will come out in July and there are rumors online that there could be a very interesting cameo from a certain famous pop star to keep our eyes open for.

'Beetlejuice 2'

It's been over 35 years since the original Beetlejuice came out so we're excited to go back to that weird universe and even more excited that original cast members Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara are in the sequel.
